Thigh liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that helps to reduce localized fat deposits in different parts of your thighs. It helps to reshape and contour your lower body, balancing your silhouette.
Naturally, body fat tends to accumulate in different areas, such as the buttocks, tummy, hips, and thighs. You can blame weight gain and gender for this fat distribution, but genetics also has a lot to do with this.
No matter the cause, the thighs are a particularly tough area to reduce unwanted fat deposits. For many of us, no matter how many squats and lunges we do, that annoying fat just doesn’t disappear!
This could take a real toll on your confidence, especially when using fitting clothes. Also, you may wish to have the desired “thigh gap,” otherwise known as the “Toblerone tunnel.” This is the triangular gap that forms near the top of a woman’s thighs when standing with her feet close together.
This bodily feature has become a trending topic in recent years, with social media and celebrities marketing it as a sign of health and hotness.
However wrong and misleading this might be, many women seek plastic surgery to improve their thigh’s appearance. So keep on reading to find out if thigh liposuction is the right fit for you.

Liposuction of the thighs eliminates fat using a suction system connected to a cannula. The process resembles any other standard liposuction treatment. The final goal is to sculpt your thighs and give you a harmonious lower body shape.
This surgical procedure treats excess fat deposits on the thighs that are difficult to eliminate through dieting and exercise. However, you have to try, as far as possible, to be near your ideal weight. After all, liposuction is not weight loss surgery!
Once the fat pockets have been removed, the skin covering your thigh should retract to match your thigh’s new shape. Thigh Vaser liposuction is a type of liposuction that eliminates stubborn fat with the added benefit of a skin-tightening effect.
Also, this gentle liposuction technique is excellent when the skin of the thighs is fragile. It helps in avoiding a corrugated sheet or waving effect. It is ideal when the patient doesn’t have too much excess fat and does not require a thigh lift to remove sagging skin.
There are different areas of the body likely to have excess fat:
In many patients, the treatment of these areas is simultaneous. Here, we speak of circumferential thigh liposuction. This 360 leg contouring liposuction is ideal for heavy thighs requiring intensive debulking and remodeling.
You should have two consultations before your thigh liposuction. This will ensure that the plastic surgeon carefully evaluates your lower body proportions and medical history.
Your doctor will assess not only your thighs but also your buttocks, lower legs, side view, together with the front and back views. In that way, he will have a better understanding of the problematic areas and how to fix any disproportions you may have.
The procedure is then planned considering the skin elasticity and the amount of body fat to be removed. Also, your doctor will listen to your goals and expectations. The idea is to create a natural, more proportionate shape.
Some patients could benefit from alternative treatments if liposuction is too extreme or the amount of fat is too little and can be managed by non-invasive options. Your surgeon will be honest and offer the best treatment plan tailored for you!
If you are a good candidate for thigh liposuction, your doctor will identify the areas of fat that need treatment. On the day of the surgery, he will mark the incision sites with a marker to plan out the surgery. The most targeted liposuction areas are the flanks and the top-most inner part of the thighs.
Depending on the case, thigh liposuction takes place under general or regional anaesthesia. It lasts, on average, between 1 and 2 hours, and you won’t require a night hospital stay.
On the day of the operation, the surgeon will inject a solution under the skin of the thighs that contains saline solution, epinephrine (to shrink blood vessels), and local anesthetic (to numb the area). This solution helps to liquefy the fatty deposits and facilitate their aspiration.
The surgeon makes small incisions into which he introduces long cannulas (hollow tubes). With a perforated tip, these instruments allow aspirating the fat in situ through back-and-forth movements. Incisions may be on the inner thighs, the outer thighs, or near the knees.
Once the surgeon aspirates fat cells, he closes all the incisions using absorbable sutures. Then, he will cover the treated areas with a compression garment.
Patients who have extensive liposuction on both the inner and outer thighs can expect a 2-week recovery period. On the other hand, patients with only a small amount of fat removed could require a 7 to 10-day recovery.
When the procedure is finished, you will already notice the first results. Your thighs will be visibly thinner and reshaped. However, you have to wait nearly 3 to 6 months to see the final results. By this time, the swelling and bruising will subside. Then, you will notice that the skin has retracted as well.
For VASER lipo, results can be seen after six weeks for most patients. However, you should wait up to 6 months in rare cases.
Also, you will have to consult the cosmetic surgeon regularly for control check-ups. In these consults, your doctor will evaluate your recovery and identify any imperfections.
Thigh liposuction surgery can give you extraordinary results. However, how long these results might last is entirely up to you! By following healthy eating habits and exercising, you will preserve your slim thighs for years to come.
Vaser thigh liposuction, also called Vaser lipo, is a pioneer fat removal technique suitable for both men and women. It uses minimally invasive state-of-the-art ultrasound energy to target, liquefy, and remove all excess fat areas with extreme precision. It’s the best solution for high-definition liposuction and can be used even in delicate areas as the chin or inner thighs.
The treatment only targets fat cells, causing far less damage to the surrounding tissues, including blood vessels and nerves. This lipo-selection technique allows for a faster recovery and less downtime.
Ultrasound probes are inserted into the skin through small incisions. The ultrasound energy is transformed into vibration energy. Then, the vibration “shakes” fat cells breaking them down. Hence, the liquefying and aspiration process is easier.
Compared to traditional liposuction, this is a minimally invasive and more effective fat removal and body contouring treatment. It also gives a skin-tightening effect because it stimulates collagen production.
On the other hand, laser liposuction is another valid minimally invasive option that uses fiber-optic lasers to melt the fat. However, this technique could be less efficient than Vaser lipo because the energy is not evenly distributed. Laser lipo only emits thermal energy at the end of the probe.
