Non-invasive Leg Liposuction

Leg liposuction, also called lower limb liposuction, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat on your legs. This procedure can be complete or limited to liposuction of the thighs, knees, or ankles.

In recent years, this liposuction procedure has increased in popularity because some women feel uncomfortable about displaying their legs in public. For some, wearing a bathing suit with pride in front of others can be a real ordeal.

Also, a common aesthetic goal for women is slender legs in which the inner thighs do not touch each other. Most women want to show their legs and look good in the process. If this is your case, leg countouring might the perfect solution for you.

The technique allows for sculpting your lower body shape with great precision. It is a combination of art and surgical skills! So, if you want to get the 4-1-1 on everything about leg sculpting options, keep on reading.

Liposuction treats excess body fat on the legs. These fat deposits are sometimes tricky to get rid of through dieting or physical activity. Most of the time, this fat maldistribution is due to genetics.

The procedure involves aspirating the fat cells with a special cannula. Many patients wish to eliminate or diminish the fat on their thighs, calves, ankles, and even the bulge of fat just below the knee.

Actually, the legs are one of the areas that can be treated more efficiently. The skin is really taut, and the results are usually fantastic. The goal of liposuction of the legs is to harmonize the legs silhouette giving a slimmer and slender appearance.

While thigh liposuction is widely known, sculpting of the calves and ankles is less common but sometimes equally important. You could be able to refine the infamous cankles that some women have despite having an appropriate weight.

However, many thick calves are due to large gastrocnemius muscles, which are genetically determined. Bear in mind that you can liposuction fat; muscles cannot!

Liposuction’s ability to make the legs look slender depends on their length, the quality of the skin (the higher the elasticity, the better), and the amount of fat that can be aspirated without causing deformity or a rippling effect.

Hence, not all patients are good candidates for this surgical procedure! If you have excess skin folds after a dramatic weight loss, liposuction won’t be right for you. In this case, you should consider having a thigh lift. Liposuction gets rid of fat but can do nothing for excess skin.

You should know that sometimes big-looking thighs are not due to genetics or poor eating habits. A leg could look bulkier due to fluid retention, lymphatic edema, poor circulation, or kidney problems. So, thick thighs could hide more serious medical conditions, and you may need proper medical treatment.

Also, body fat is not always a synonym for obesity. Leg liposuction could be mandatory in medical conditions such as lipoedema, where the patient suffers from an abnormal build-up of fat in the legs that can even be painful and disabling. So, leg liposculpture can address aesthetic concerns as well as medical ones.

As with any cosmetic surgery, the patient must be in good health to consider a leg shaping. Although it is a minimally invasive procedure, you have to get clearance from your general physician.

Then, on your first consultation, your cosmetic surgeon will assess the problematic areas of your legs to design a treatment plan specially tailored for you. He will also take preoperative photographs to preview and give you an idea of the after results.

During this consult, you will also get information on the pros and cons of legs liposuction. You should be aware of the benefit and risks to make an informed decision. The clinic will also give you a detailed estimate, including all the costs necessary for your treatment.

The duration of this procedure varies according to the quantity of fat to be removed. It takes an average of 30 minutes to 1 hour. Peridural anesthesia or general anesthesia is possible according to the person’s wishes and the anesthesiologist’s criteria.

The procedure is done through micro incisions located in the inner thighs, the outer thighs, or behind the knee and ankles.

Your plastic surgeon will remove the fat deposits using a special cannula (hollow tube) introduced through these incisions to dislodge and aspirate the fat cells. He will inject a mixture of diluted local anaesthetic (helps numb the area) and epinephrine (shrinks the blood vessels) to help separate the fat from the surrounding tissues. This also helps to reduce bruising and pain.

Vaser liposuction is a minimally invasive body contouring procedure that can be highly effective in shaping your legs. It has minimal downtime.

This new technique uses ultrasound energy to help break down fat cells. Actually, the fat is melted (liquefied) to speed the aspiration process. Also, with this technology, the surrounding body tissues are left untouched, resulting in far less bruising, swelling, and pain.

Vaser lipo also allows the surgeon to do a 360 leg contouring with better results than traditional liposculpture. Also, you get the added benefit of a skin-tightening effect because this procedure stimulates collagen and elastin production.

Depending on the extent of the treated area, you will need 1 to 3 days of recovery before getting back to work. Although, it would be best to take a week off work.

The tenderness and the feeling of tension in the calves is usual. So this procedure can cause moderate pain. However, a simple analgesic can be prescribed.

Compression garments limit post-operative discomfort and also help the skin to react optimally. You must wear them permanently for a minimum of ten days.

You should also keep your legs elevated as much as you can.

After these ten days, the patient could remove compression garments only to shower and sleep if they are poorly tolerated. However, it is best to wear them 24/7 for a month for better results.

You will get injections of anticoagulants to prevent phlebitis and blood clots for 7 to 10 days. Also, slow walking is encouraged from the day after the surgery.

The liposuction procedure generates edema and bruises that are easily concealed under clothing. Arnica massage oil acts can help a lot with bruises.

Most of the time, the small incisions are closed using resorbable stitches and hidden in the natural skin folds. It is beneficial to get up every hour or so to walk for 10–15 minutes. This also helps prevent blood clots and diminishes pain. However, you will not be allowed to engage in strenuous activities or sports for 21-28 days.

No nursing care apart from anticoagulant injections is necessary. Check-up consultations must also be scheduled to do a proper follow-up during the recovery.

Complications are exceptional! Skin wounds may appear in case of poor venous circulation and prolonged pressure on the operated areas.

The swelling of the legs can take up to a month to diminish. Manual lymphatic drainage massages 2–3 times a week are very useful.

After the swelling subsides, the first results are then seen. It takes six months to obtain definitive results. Also, the scars will disappear after one year and are hardly visible during the first year.

Leg liposuction is effective in refining the silhouette of the ankles, knees, and legs. You get a smooth transition from the inner and the outer thighs down to your feet.

This procedure will give you an instant boost in your confidence, and you will find yourself wearing clothes that show your new legs in no time! Also, you get long-term results that could last many years provided that you keep a healthy lifestyle and do exercise.
