PECTORAL IMPLANTS: ADVANTAGES, RISKS, RECOVERY AND COST

More and more men are choosing pectoral implants to get a more toned physique.

You don’t have to feel self-conscious about having under-developed pectoral muscles anymore. Also, if you are athletic and wish to enhance your chest contour, a pectoral augmentation might be perfect for you!

The idea is to create a better-developed chest. According to Doctor Benito, “pectoral implant procedures are technically simple, with fast recuperation and few complications. The result is appreciated quickly.”

Although plastic surgeons are very familiar with female breast augmentationmale chest enhancement was relatively uncommon years ago. Nowadays, pec implants, also known as chest implants, are quickly becoming a more popular cosmetic surgery, though.

A solid silicone implant is specially designed for this area. Although it is a non-invasive surgical procedure, it is essential to put yourself in experienced hands. Choose a qualified professional team and have the plastic surgery in an accredited center.

HOW ARE PEC IMPLANTS?

Male pectoral implants are very different from female breast implants. They are made of solid silicone, so they are completely safe and won’t leak out. However, they are also very flexible and soft, which will give you very natural results.

Implants come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. Patients can also get a custom-made implant (Sebbin) in order to choose the desired projection and increase bulkiness.

The expected increase that you can get with pectoral implants depends on the type of implants you have. It ranges from 2.4 cm to 2.9 cm. However, the size must be in balance with the rest of your body proportions.

For that reason, the pec implant is chosen according to the patient´s measures. The pectoralis major and the thorax are measured to choose the size of the implants: 180, 240 (the most common size), or 300 grams.

Doctor Benito uses cohesive gel implants as they are very resistant. This type of implant allows the patient to do weight-training exercises in the gym without fear of rupture or leakage.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR PEC IMPLANTS SURGERY?

Some men want to enhance their pectoral muscles. Despite intense exercise, they are unable to achieve their desired chest definition. So, with the help of pec implants, they can get the sculpted chest they have always wanted.

Also, you could be battling the aging signs and could find yourself with a saggy chest. Or maybe you had a major weight loss and need reconstructive surgery.

Indeed, it is not so much a matter of vanity but a medical issue for many patients. Pectoral implants are the answer for patients who have suffered injuries to the pectoral muscle or who had undergone gynecomastia surgery.

Also, it is ideal for patients who suffer from Pectus Excavatum (sunken chest) or Poland syndrome. This is a congenital condition that involves the partial or total absence of the pectoralis major muscle.

HOW IS PECTORAL IMPLANT SURGERY PERFORMED?

Before planning a pectoral augmentation surgery, you should be healthy and get clearance from your general physician. Also, it is essential to have realistic expectations about what can be achieved with male pec implants. So, excellent communication with your plastic surgeon is key!

The surgical procedure involves putting the implants in place through the armpit. Your doctor will make a small incision of about 3-4 centimeters in the skin fold. The placement of the incision will make the scarring less visible.

Then, your doctor will make a pocket or create a space in the tissue between the rib cage and the major pectoral muscle. Next, the custom silicone implant will be inserted into this pocket. Finally, the skin and chest muscles will be stitched closed to keep the implant from moving.

Surgery is performed under general anaesthetic, and it takes between 1-2 hours to complete. It is a simple intervention and only requires the patient to stay in one night.

There are different types of chest implant surgeries. The majority involve single implants or custom-made implants. However, some difficult cases may even require fat transfer techniques too.

Also, an innovative technique is doing VASER liposuction to the chest before inserting the implants. This helps to remove all the excess fat in the area. In that way, the implants and muscles can stand out better.

HOW IS THE RECOVERY AFTER PECTORAL IMPLANTS SURGERY?

Recovery after pectoral implant surgery is almost immediate. After three days, it is possible to go back to your normal life.

It is important that you follow the patient care instructions provided by your doctor. You can do everything except intense physical exercise. Usually, there are not any important side effects or risks of encapsulation.

During the four or five days after surgery, you’ll experience some:

  • pain and swelling
  • inflammation
  • bruising
  • a feeling of tightness in your chest
  • drainage from the incision zone

You will likely have temporal drainage tubes. Also, you may need to wear a compression garment to help with the swelling and prevent the implant from moving.

It is better for you to take a week off work. You will need to avoid strenuous physical activity, especially anything involving the use of your arms. Also, you should avoid physical bodybuilding training for 5-6 weeks. After this, you can start by doing gentle exercise.

RESULTS AFTER PEC IMPLANTS SURGERY

Your incisions will heal in approximately 14 days. However, it may take up to six weeks for the chest muscles to heal completely. After the recovery period, you will fully see the definite results from your pectoral augmentation surgery.

Later on, with a little exercise, you can fully develop the chest muscles. As the implant is below the pectoral muscle, you can get spectacular results with minimum exercise.

The results from pectoral implant surgery are long-lasting. However, for safety, a follow-up evaluation is important to ensure the correct evolution. Asymmetry may occur if pec implants move out of place.

If you are unhappy with the results, you can have revision surgery 12-18 months after. The idea is that you are satisfied with the outcome and fulfill your expectations.

IS THERE ANY RISK WITH PECTORAL IMPLANTS?

Although very unlikely, the patient may suffer from some complications:

  • Infection and bleeding. To prevent it, your doctor will prescribe antibiotics.
  • Hematomas and seromas. Also known as the accumulation of blood and fluids under the skin.
  • Scarring
  • Muscle spasms in your upper arms.
  • Capsular contracture.
  • Undesired results that may require additional procedures.

For instance, pec implants could shift from their original place. This would require surgical correction.

HOW MUCH PECTORAL IMPLANT SURGERY COSTS?

Pectoral implant surgery cost depends on the physical features of the patient and of the technique used in the surgery.

Surgery can be performed with standard pec implants (Polytech) or with custom-made implants (Sebbin). The patient can thus choose the desired projection. Personalized male chest implant price will be higher.
