Botox for crow’s feet is a very popular procedure specially designed to diminish the lines and wrinkles around the eye area.
Unlike other types of wrinkles, crow’s feet may seem to look deeper or more pronounced on your skin. Also, they can appear early on, as soon as in your mid-twenties, under the influence of genetics, bad skincare, sun exposure, and free radicals.
Some say that crow’s feet are charming or add character to your face. Some even called them laugh lines or happy lines.
Love them or hate them, the majority of us will eventually get them! And they are the telltale signs of the aging process. So keep on reading to know what you can do get rid of crow’s feet.
Look at your skin as if it were a rubber band. Thorough out our daily activities, the skin is pulled and stretched. If the rubber band is brand new, it bounces back and returns to its original shape. However, if the rubber band is old and used, it gets all floppy and loose. The same happens with our skin elasticity!
As we age, we lose collagen and elastin. With repeated muscle contraction, fine lines and wrinkles start to appear, especially around the eye area, which happens to have 40% thinner and more delicate skin than the rest.
On top of that, this area is heavily used considering that we can blink up to 20 times a minute, and it gets disrupted when you cry, smile, frown, or laugh.
We are not telling you to stop laughing or not raise your eyebrows in disbelief (like you are probably doing right now).
It all comes down to finding the right treatment plan for you. And we are not talking about facial plastic surgery! There are less invasive yet effective options to treat crow’s feet.
Botox is the most well-known brand name of the botulinum toxin. This is a neurotoxin that is produced by the same bacterium responsible for botulism. But not to worry! The botulinum toxin is a very safe, medically approved substance for cosmetic use.
Basically, Botox works by stopping the nerve signals from getting to the muscles, hence temporarily reducing their activity and causing them to contract less often. The relaxation of the muscles surrounding the corners of your eyes gives your skin a smoother appearance, diminishing or erasing your crow’s feet altogether. The effects may be even more noticeable when you laugh!
However, you don’t have to wait until your wrinkles are fully formed. Botox can be used to prevent or at least slow down the appearance of fine lines and dynamic wrinkles caused by muscle movement and facial expressions, like squinting or smiling.
You can get rid of crow’s feet in less than 15 minutes in an in-and-out procedure!
First, you will have a consultation where your doctor will listen to your goals and expectations. Also, he will explain the procedure and give some recommendations, like reducing alcohol and the use of anti-inflammatory drugs 24 hours before, to reduce the possibility of bruising.
On the day of the procedure, your doctor will ask you to smile to assess your muscle contraction’s strength and make your crow’s feet more apparent. Then, he will mark the botox injection sites to fix the problematic areas.
Don’t worry about the needles! This is virtually a pain-free procedure and, in case your anxious about it, your doctor can offer you the use of an anesthetic cream to numb the area.
This botox non-surgical treatment is a procedure with almost zero downtime and little to no side effects!
In the first hours, you will have to stay in an upright position, avoiding exercise (including yoga) or activities where your head is low. Also, you should limit the movement of the treated area for 24 hrs. So try not to laugh a lot or to rub your eyes!
You will start to see results after 2-5 days, and they will continue to improve after 14 days. At that point, you will have a checkup to make sure that you are happy with the results or in case you need more units injected.
Remember that it is better to go easy on the Botox and take gradual steps to get your desired look. Less is more!
The duration can vary from person to person. However, most Botox injected can last up to six months, with an average of 3-4 months.
In case that your doctor uses mini doses, you could expect touch-ups every 2-3 months.
The main difference between using Botox for crow’s feet and for frown lines, is the number of units required to treat each area.
Since crow’s feet is a smaller area, fewer units are required. However, the treatment plan is tailored specially for you.
In the case of crow’s feet, must doctors prefer using Botulinum toxin. However, if wrinkles are very deep, you could benefit from using a filler additionally. In this case, your doctor will need to have a delicate hand to go easy on the muscle relaxation and use a filler around the eyes.
Also, when crow’s feet become so deep and are aggravated by the loss of volume at the cheekbones, you may need to combine the Botox treatment with dermal fillers to add volume at the cheekbones and get more natural and long-lasting results.
However, you can rest assured that your doctor will properly advise you, so you know whether Botulinum toxin or a filler is the best option for you!
The opposite! When you use Botox on a continuous basis, it can be very effective.
As time goes by, lines and wrinkles will appear less pronounced because the muscles stop contracting and are trained to stay relaxed. Botox reeducates your muscles!
Not at all!
Actually, when injecting the area surrounding the corner of your eyes, you can see a slight flattering lift of the eyebrows because this muscle tends typically to have a downward pulling effect on them.
This is a very important point that must be explained. Botox and dermal fillers are very different products with different properties! Botox is a neurotoxin that weakens muscle movements, reducing dynamic wrinkles and the appearance of fine lines on your face.
On the other hand, hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers do absolutely nothing to reduce or inhibit muscle movement.
Instead, they have collagen stimulating and water-binding properties, being used to correct fine lines and add volume in various parts of the face. So Botox is to prevent wrinkles and dermal fillers for plumping and adding volume!
Botox can be the perfect solution if you have a troublesome relationship with your crow’s feet.
It can really give you a bright-eyed and rejuvenated appearance, free of wrinkles and lines, so you can laugh without the fear of getting older! So don’t waste time and book a consultation right away to start your Botox journey.
