LIPOSUCTION AND STOMACH IMPERFECTIONS
Abdominal liposuction is an effective solution to remove excess fat in the middle section or abdomen.
The abdomen is a particular area of the body that requires great surface and in-depth anatomical knowledge from the surgeon. This, combined with an impeccable surgical technique, will give you a great outcome.
On the surface, the stomach is divided into four regions:
- Epigastrium or upper abdomen.
- Hypogastrium or lower abdominal part.
- Peri-umbilical region. The area around the navel. This part must always be treated to avoid the appearance of a doughnut.
- The mesogastrium. Also called the waist. This part links the upper and lower abdomen.
When an abdomen is too large, or the patient wishes to address excess fat in other areas of the body, the surgeon needs to perform back-to-back surgeries within a reasonable period of time.
You may feel tempted to get all the fat out in one surgery. However, the maximum amount of fat that can be easily removed without increasing the risk of complications is between six and eight pounds. So, always put safety before beauty!
DURING THE STOMACH LIPOSUCTION
The stomach liposuction lasts between one and three hours. It is treated as a walk-in-walk-out surgery unless the patient has other surgical procedures or extensive liposuction in multiple areas.
This procedure is done under general anaesthetic or using an epidural. With regional anaesthesia, you will be conscious but numbed from the waist down so that you won’t feel any pain or discomfort.
The plastic surgeon makes small incisions of 2 to 3 mm under the fold of the groin, the pubis, or the navel. This helps to hide the scars as much as possible in the natural creases of the body.
For tumescent liposuction, the surgeon will inject a mixture of saline solution, local anesthetic, and epinephrine. This solution allows to numb the area and limit the risk of hematomas by shrinking blood vessels. Also, it helps to dislodge the fat layer and separate it from the surrounding tissues.
Then, the surgeon introduces a cannula through the skin incisions. This is a fine hollow tube with a rounded tip and perforated ends. This device helps break up the fat cells using high-frequency vibrations (VASER lipo), a weak laser pulse, or a high-pressure water jet.
The plastic surgeon will connect the cannula to a negative pressure suction system (vacuum). Then, using a back and forth motion, he will loosen the fat and suck it out. He can also choose a thin cannula connected to a syringe that works with a plunger in case of a moderate amount of fat.
At the end of the stomach liposuction, the surgeon will drain any excess blood and fluids. Then, he will close the incisions and apply a bandage to the treated areas.
