Botox injection (botulinum toxin) are one of the most common cosmetic procedures performed in Spain.

Botox injections are the ideal treatment to remove facial expression wrinkles located:
– across the forehead
– between the eyebrows
– on the periocular area (crow’s feet)
– on the perioral area (vertical lip wrinkles),
– on the neck bands.

Normally, patients who come to Spain to undergo treatment based on Botox injections are over 30 years old.

Botox allows you to correct the signs of aging without the need of undergoing surgery. By injecting the botulinum toxin into the wrinkle, the muscles in the area temporarily relax and the wrinkle disappears or attenuates. This restores the face naturalness and youth.

In the event that wrinkles do not completely disappear, botulinum toxin treatment can be combined with other cosmetic procedures such as: applying facial fillers, skinboosters, laser or dermaroller.

A Botox treatment requires the intervention of an experienced professional who can advise the patient wisely and avoid at all costs these frozen and expressionless faces lacking of naturalness.

How is Botox treatment performed?

Botox treatment is carried out by infiltrating small amounts of botulinum toxin in certain muscles and areas. Infiltration is done with virtually painless microinjections.

The success of this Botox treatment is due to several factors:

– Treatment is performed in the consultation, on an outpatient basis.

– The application of the treatment lasts a few minutes and it is applied in one session.

– The use of local anaesthesia is not necessary (although it can be applied if the patient wants it)

– The pain produced by the pricks is very slight.

– After the session, the patient can immediately return to his usual activities.

How long does Botox last?

The effect of the Botox injection begins to appear after three or four days. Its effect is complete between the next seven and ten days, at that time the patient will notice the results.

The effects of Botox are not permanent and tend to lessen after three or four months. They normally disappear after five or six months. Thereafter, the treatment can be repeated, after medical evaluation.

How much does a Botox treatment cost?

This is one of the first questions that patients often ask. Without knowing the patient, we do not offer approximate prices since each patient is different. But we know that the economic factor is important when making the decision. For this reason, we offer the patient the possibility of coming to the clinic facilities for a free and no obligation first visit. The patient will be able to consult with the doctor all the doubts or concerns. The medical team will analyse the best solution for your case.

Why should Botox injections be performed in a specialised medical centre?

A treatment based on Botox injections requires a previous diagnosis.

Plastic surgeons, dermatologists, and cosmetic medicine specialists are the only experts authorised to apply botulinum toxin.

The risks of not going to a specialised medical centre to carry out the treatment are highly dangerous. Botox treatment can cause serious health damages and have unpleasant side effects if it is not applied correctly.

Likewise, an indiscriminate and measureless use of this toxin can result in an unnatural and expressionless face.

The medical team at the Antiaging Group Barcelona clinic always seeks balance in such a way that wrinkle removal is achieved while preserving natural expressiveness. Each patient requires a personalised treatment. The goal is to make the wrinkle disappear without changing the personality of the face. To achieve this, each face and gesturing must be analysed, as well as the movement of the facial muscles that cause the wrinkle.

What precautions should I take before Botox treatment?

Anticoagulant medications have a direct effect on the penetration of botulinum toxin into the tissues. This is the reason why if you take this type of medicine, you should ask your doctor if you can interrupt the treatment for a few days. The use of antiplatelet agents or the intake of alcohol is also not recommended. It is recommended not to take nutritional supplements that affect coagulation such as vitamin E or garlic. These precautions will prevent bruising.

What precautions should I take after Botox treatment?

After a Botox treatment, you can continue with your normal life. However, you should not:

– Massage the treated area in the next 24 hours.

– Go to saunas or swimming pools.

– Consume large amounts of alcohol.

– Lie down in the hours following the treatment.

– Perform any type of physical activity, especially with movements that involve moving the head downwards (such as yoga)

– Wash your hair with your head down in the hours following the treatment.

What are the risks of Botox injections?

Botox injection should not cause any side effects, as long as it is administered by a qualified professional and provided the appropriate dose is applied.

Botox injection may temporarily cause short-term pain, edema (swelling), bruising (hematoma), or hyperesthesia (abnormal increase in tactile sensitivity). In some cases, patients may have mild headaches. In the treatment of crow’s feet with Botox, a small retention of liquid in the lower eyelid can occur in those who have marked bags. It is a temporary effect that can be avoided by limiting the application of the product in that area.

What other medical benefits does Botox injections have?

Botox is also used to treat excessive sweating problems (hyperhidrosis) that normally affect the palms of the hands, feet, armpits, or face. Its application manages to stop sweat production within a few days. Its effect is temporary, approximately six months. In addition, Botox has also been used to combat other disorders such as back pain, and correct tics. It has also been used to give symmetry to the face, not as a rejuvenations treatment.

What are the differences between Botox and hyaluronic acid?

Botox and hyaluronic acid contain similar substances and rejuvenating effects, but there are some important differences between them. Botox (botulinum toxin) paralyzes the muscles and prevents wrinkles produced by their movements. Whereas hyaluronic acid can be injected into the skin in order to fill in the wrinkle or it can be applied to the skin.

Hyaluronic acid treatment is applied similarly to Botox. By injections or infiltrations you can reduce facial wrinkles and fill certain areas of the face. It is also used to treat the periorbital area (crow’s feet).

Hyaluronic acid can be applied in other areas such as:

– Contour and corner of the lips

– Lips and cheekbones

– Nasogenian furrows (expression lines on the sides of the nose).

Hyaluronic acid is injected superficially into the skin, providing volume and hydration without altering the physical characteristics of the treated area. In cosmetics, there are also creams or serums that contain high concentrations of hyaluronic acid. They are applied with facial massages to improve the appearance and smoothness of the skin. However, cream or serums results are not as fast and effective as those of infiltrations.
