Rhinoplasty in Spain. Nose Surgery. Non-surgical nose filler. AGB

Rhinoplasty (also called nose surgery or nose job) is one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries. It involves operating on the nasal bone and cartilage. Both elements give your nose its shape and structure.

This operation can improve the appearance of your nose and correct some birth defects. The size of the nose can be reduced or enlarged, as well as turned up or down. Surgery can also improve the way you breathe through your nose.

In some cases, a less invasive option would be a non-surgical procedure. Nose fillers can be used in cases where nose deformities are small.

In more complex cases, an open rhinoplasty will be performed under general anaesthetic. A small suture is made on the columella. An alternative to traditional plastic surgery is ultrasonic rhinoplasty. This modern procedure is less traumatic and causes little pain.

Rhinoplasty requires a surgeon with wide experience and who is at the forefront of the most advanced techniques. For the whole face to be harmonious and beautiful, the size and shape of the nose has to balance with the rest of the facial features. Here is where good plastic surgeons stand out.

The objective of a rhinoplasty is to improve both aesthetics and function, in other words, to improve both breathing and the appearance of the nose.

Some small cuts are made inside the nose in order to:

  • Narrow the nasal tip by eliminating part of the alar cartilage.
  • Straighten the nasal ridge to reduce it.
  • Make the nose smaller.
  • Make the nasal tip more turned-up, narrower or rounder.
  • Place cartilage grafts to fill certain parts of the nose.
  • Correct the deviations of the nasal septum.

Only in a few complex cases is the so-called open rhinoplasty carried out. In such case, a small cut is made in the columnella (the bridge of skin between the lip and the tip of the nose which separates the two nostrils).

After the rhinoplasty, a cast is placed on the nose to protect and keep the shape of your nose. Some packing is placed also inside the nose.

It isn’t a painful operation. The day after the operation the packing will be removed. The cast will be removed a week after the operation.

Inflammation usually together with swelling lasts about a month. After an open rhinoplasty certain residual swelling could last longer. It is important to say that it could take some months to see the final result.

The deviation of the nasal septum (crooked nose) is quite a common problem that increases the complexity of the rhinoplasty. The nasal deviation can cause breathing problems as well as aesthetic problems. It can be due to a fracture in nasal bones which took on a bad form during the healing process or it can also be due to a fracture in the septum.

It is necessary to do a CT (CAT) scan to see the state of the septum, to see where the deviation is and to see if there are any fractures. In these cases it is usually necessary to do an open rhinoplasty, as it is easier to see the septum, thus a more anatomical reconstruction can be done.

The main objective of the rhinoseptoplasty (rhinoplasty of the septum to correct a crooked nose) is to help the patient breathe better and at the same time to get a good aesthetic result.

Sometimes we work together with a specialist in ear-nose-throat surgery so they can deal with the functional part and we can deal with the cosmetic part.

Rhinoplasty is a plastic surgery which requires patience. The recovery is complex because the tissue doesn’t behave in a predictable way. For this reason regular visits are set up.

Normally the cast is removed a week after the surgery. At the beginning, patients will look strange to themselves because the nose and its surrounding tissue (cheeks, eyes and upper lip) will be swollen. Furthermore, the nose will feel blocked up because of the inflammation of the internal mucous.

It is after 2 weeks when the swelling starts to decrease. Normally starting from week 3 and until the 3rd to 6th month the nasal swelling gradually reduces. The process is a little slower after open rhinoplasty.

The result of the nasal ridge can be appreciated before that of the frontal view, which takes 12 to 18 months to get a definitive result.

When a person decides to go in for rhinoplasty surgery there is a feeling of uncertainty. And here is where computer simulations come into play, since they let you see a before and after result. Recent progress in photographic software allows the patient to get an idea of what the final result will be.

Computer simulation is done with the purpose of getting surgeon and patient to agree on the result they want to obtain. But the computer simulation should in no way be considered as what the final result will be.

Undoubtedly the surgeons and the patients are the most interested in getting the desired result. But we should not forget that the plastic surgery involves working with living tissue. Changing the appearance of something specific on the computer is a matter of seconds. However, the computer doesn’t take into account the quality of the tissue, the thickness and the age of the skin.
