Natural Lip Fillers

ALL ABOUT NATURAL LIP FILLERS FOR PERFECTLY-SHAPED LIPS

Choosing a natural lip filler can help you achieve the perfect volume and size of the lips you have always dreamed of. So, whether you are battling against the unforgiven aging process or you were not gifted by nature with a trot pout, your prayers might be answered with this cosmetic procedure performed with hyaluronic acid.

“Hyaluronic Acid for a lip augmentation? Really? Isn’t it used in skincare products to improve lines and wrinkles?” –You might be asking yourself-.

You must know that hyaluronic acid is considered an all-star ingredient with benefits that go well beyond skincare. Actually, this ingredient might be considered the holy grail of the beauty and cosmetic industry.

So keep on reading to find everything that there is to know about lip injections and natural lip fillers.

Why choosing hyaluronic acid for the lips?

Hyaluronic acid is a natural ingredient, a large chain of sugar molecules commonly found throughout our entire body. It is mostly concentrated in our skin, eyes, and the synovial fluid that lubricates our joints.

Hyaluronic acid helps keep your skin suppled and hydrated because it can attract and hold 1000 times its weight in water. This important humectant property is achieved by pulling water from the air and deep layers of the skin, giving you a fresher and youthful appearance.

However, the hyaluronic acid benefits are not limited to the skin! That’s why there are various HA-based beauty products, including lip balms to fix chapped, wrinkled and dehydrated lips. Some products even go beyond and promise ultra-hydration paired with increased volume for your lips.

Although heavily nourished with different types of HA giving you extra hydration, these lip plumper products rely on tingle-inducing products to increase blood circulation to the lips, so they look bigger. And even though these modern lip plumpers do not sting like hell (like old ones used to do), they cannot provide you with long-term and dramatic results. Also, they are not free of slightly annoying side effects.

That’s why hyaluronic acid injection is the best option if you want to go “under the needle” and volumize your lips with long-lasting results! It is a natural, biocompatible, and biodegradable molecule with little to no risk of allergic reactions and side effects.

Am I a Good Candidate for Lip Fillers?

This lip fillers are ideal for thin-lipped patients who want to improve the size of their lips, giving them a plumping effect. Also, it allows to correct asymmetries, improve the contour or lip line, and get rid of perioral/upper lip wrinkles. It can even lift the edges of your mouth and improve your smile!

However, when having this procedure done, you must consult experienced board-certified professionals who can talk you through the process and listen to your goals and expectations regarding size, volume, shape, and subtlety. Then, the doctor will do everything to achieve the desired results, taking into account the natural shape of your lips and your facial structure to improve the harmony and overall balance.

The main goal is to add volume and improve the contour of your lips in the most subtle and natural way possible! And this is only achieved through an excellent knowledge of facial anatomy and good injection technique.

How is the lip fillers procedure?

After your initial consultation, your doctor will give you some recommendations before the lip augmentation procedure. Do not take aspirin, analgesics like ibuprofen (anti-inflammatory drugs), vitamin E, fish oil, and alcohol one week before and after the procedure. They can act as blood thinners and make bruising more likely. Also, you should avoid smoking before and after to speed the healing process.

The procedure itself does not take much time. First, your doctor will apply some topical anesthetic cream on the lips to numb the area, so you won’t feel any pain or discomfort, leaving it on for 10-15 minutes. Then, the doctor will clean your lips and iced the area to reduce circulation and diminish immediate swelling and bruising.

After that, the doctor will inject the lip filler with a small needle or cannula using a retrograde linear or fan technique. You won’t feel any pain, just a slight sting or pressure as the filler is injected!

Finally, the doctor will gently massage the area to promote the integration of the product and achieve the desired shape. The whole process could take between 30-45 minutes or less. No pain, no cuts, and little downtime!

The key to having a subtle lip filler result

It all comes down to your doctor choosing the right type of filler, injecting the right areas, and the right amount!

Remember: Bad lip fillers are easily noticeable, but good fillers aren’t!

There are different types of HA-based fillers that differ in viscosity, molecular weight, and binding capacities. Generally, less thick HA lip fillers are smoother to inject and less painful for the patient. Also, depending on their properties, they are better at adding volume or reshaping and contouring the lips.

How much lip filler do i need?

A lot of patients might feel tempted to ask for oversized, fuller lips. However, 90% of patients only need 1 ml of product injected, with an additional 0,5 ml in some cases. However, no more than 2 ml of the product should be injected in the first lip filler session.

In any case, if the patient wants a bigger size, it is better to take baby steps and build up lip volume slowly over time with several sessions.

Also, less is often better when it comes to lips, so you don’t end up with a fake duck pout! The idea is to achieve a lip-plumping effect while maintaining natural-looking lips.

Fillers Are Not Forever!

After your lip augmentation procedure, you should wait up to two weeks for the product to settle and see the final results. They can last between 6 months and a year or so.

Ultimately, the duration depends on the type of filler, the brand, your metabolism and even how much you move your lips! Also, sun exposure can cause some fillers to break down faster and being absorbed by the body. So prepare to do touch-ups every 6-12 months to maintain your results, adding 0,5 ml or so of lip fillers per session.

How is lip fillers aftercare and follow-up?

Aftercare is minimal. Expect some swelling for the first 2-3 days and some bruising for the first week. This is completely normal, so do not panic!

You will feel your lips very tender, sore, and “tight,” but this can improve applying iced packs frequently. Also, your doctor can recommend you to take Arnica for the next five days to reduce bruising.

Avoid taking hot beverages, spicy foods, alcohol, and aspirin. Also, you won´t be able to go to the sauna or expose to direct sunlight the first two weeks. Remember to be gentle to your lips! Avoid touching them too often and keep kissing at a bare minimum the first days.

A Final Word

Having a lip filler treatment is not something that you should take lightly. You have to be pretty sure about having this procedure done because even though it is minimally invasive, it carries risks and special aftercare to achieve optimal results.

There are so many ways in which a filler treatment can go wrong. That’s why you have to put yourself in experienced hands. Remember that bad filler treatments can be way more noticeable than good ones, and not in a flattering way!
