Butt Implants for a Perfect Buttock Augmentation

Butt implants are placed in the buttocks to enhance the volume in this area. Nowadays, buttock augmentation, also called bum enlargement, is one of the most requested cosmetic surgeries.

You might consider a butt augmentation to have a shapely buttock after weight loss. Or maybe you were not naturally gifted with a voluptuous derriere. Whatever your case, there are multiple plastic surgery options to improve the contour and volume of your butt.

Sometimes, butt implants are combined with a buttock lift. In this case, the excess fat and skin are removed from the buttocks, and the remaining skin is then repositioned to create a more toned look. This gives you an instant lower body lift!

Bum implants combined with a Brazilian Butt Lift are an excellent way to achieve the most natural look while reshaping the buttocks. The implant fills the upper two-thirds of the buttocks very well, but not the lower part. Here is where fat grafting (also called autologous fat transfer) comes in to improve the final result.

It is a guaranteed improvement in contour, shape, and size that can benefit the balance of your figure!

Butt augmentation with implants offers long-lasting and spectacular results. Current techniques are safe and with a very low rate of complications.

However, to avoid unpleasant surprises, it is important to use the correct technique and suitable implant. Also, buttock enhancement surgical procedures require a board-certified plastic surgeon with wide experience.

With the appropriate technique, the buttock implant is covered over, it is not visible, and it doesn’t move. You won’t even feel the implants, and you will have a beautiful and well-proportioned buttock.

Butt implants are very common in certain parts of Latin America, and they are increasingly in demand in Europe. Implants are made of cohesive silicone gel and try to give the buttocks the most rounded shape possible.

They are flatter and are more resistant than silicone implants that are used for breast augmentation. This resistance allows the buttocks area to withstand, without problems, the pressure that comes from the use of the gluteus maximus muscle when walking, running, or jumping.

Currently, there are two kinds of buttock implantsoval-shaped or round-shaped. The type of implant is chosen depending on the shape of the buttocks and the patient’s goals and expectations. Most women choose round-shaped implants because they give more projection and round off the curves of the buttocks.

However, in women with flat or sagging buttocks, the best option is to use oval-shaped implants. This type of butt implant avoids the appearance of double contours and prevents the result from being too round and artificial.

Even though they offer long-lasting results, buttock implant removal is possible. If your implants don’t look right, they can be surgically removed. Scars will be minimal since incisions are usually well-hidden in the butt crease.

Butt augmentation with implants is an invasive procedure performed in a surgical facility under general or regional anesthesia. It can take up to 1,5-3hrs if more complementary procedures are done.

Drains could be left in place to allow excess fluid and blood to drain from the body. Also, you will have to wear a supportive compression garment to prevent swelling and tighten the skin.

During a buttock augmentation procedure, the implant is placed below the gluteus maximus muscle in a way that cannot be distinguished externally. The incision is made in the crease between the two buttocks, as low as possible so that it is hidden.

The implant won’t be displaced, and you will get natural results!

We can also position the implant subcutaneously to give a more voluminous result. However, this technique is doomed to failure, and its results are not very aesthetic.

The butt implant could move out of place and sag over time. Also, it can turn over and be easily seen from every perspective giving unnatural results. This technique is widespread because it is very easy to do, but it has disastrous consequences.

Instead, your surgeon could do a little amount of fat grafting around the implants to help smoothen out the edges. This body contouring procedure makes the implant less visible with more natural results as compared to implants alone.

Last but not least important, let’s talk about volume. As Dr. Gary Horn, a renowned plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience in buttock augmentation, says: “the size of your implants matters.”

The patient needs to understand that the implant is inserted inside a muscle, and if it’s too big, complications may arise. The sutures may even open. So, the implant must be smaller than the size of the muscle itself.

The butt implant is not rejected or encapsulated. It is inserted deep into the muscle, so it won’t move as long as you follow the indications from your doctor during recovery.

The risk of infection is very low, and in any case, you will be prescribed preventive antibiotics for ten days after the surgery. Also, you should keep the area clean and dry.

And remember, for future considerations, a patient who has silicone gluteal implants should always mention it whenever she/he goes to a medical center. Intramuscular injections should be avoided for obvious reasons!

It is essential to remember that gluteal augmentation with implants is a safer option compared to silicone injections. Always!

The buttock implants can be removed in case of complications or at the request of the patient. However, liquid silicone infiltrates into all tissues, has a higher rate of life-threatening complications, and is impossible to extract.

Not only illegal silicone injections can cause disfigurement or significant scarring. The side effects are even worse than you’d think. Loose silicone, as opposed to cohesive silicone used as enclosed butt implants, comes with fatal complications. When injected into blood vessels can cause a pulmonary embolism and death.

Butt implants are not for the faint of heart. You can’t sit or lie on your back for three weeks after your butt augmentation! This is to prevent incision opening or a displacement of the butt implant that could cause asymmetries.

The immediate aftercare may be as important as the surgery itself. For this reason, the patient should be committed and follow these instructions in the recovery period:

  • The first two days, you should rest lying face down.
  • Later, it is possible to get up, but you should avoid sitting in the first 10-14 days for a week, except when eating or using the bathroom
  • You will have to lie on your stomach or side while sleeping or watching TV. Also, you can sit only with a soft pillow placed beneath your hamstring muscles so that your buttock is suspended in mid-air with no pressure on the area.
  • From week two to eight, you will only be allowed to sit using a donut pillow to keep off direct pressure from the buttock area.
  • You should only take small steps and have slow movements. Also, you should refrain from going up and down the stairs throughout the recovery process.
  • It is important to avoid physical exercise that involves using the buttocks for six to eight weeks.

You will notice immediate changes in the volume and contour of your buttocks. However, there will also be a significant amount of swelling. When it subsides, it could take between three to six months to see the final results.

When a person decides to go in for buttock augmentation, there is fear and uncertainty. Although the patient may have a good idea of the outcome, it could be difficult to communicate it to the plastic surgeon.

Here is where computer simulations come into play. Recent progress in photographic software allows the patient to see before and after photos. Also, it can help in getting the surgeon and the patient on the same page.

“It’s not just about increasing the volume of the buttocks and giving it projection. It is about completely changing the shape,” explains Doctor Jesús Benito, director of the Antiaging Group Barcelona (Spain).

The new buttock surgery takes into consideration the different types of buttocks that exist. Doctor Benito also considers the ethnic origin and preferences of each patient. For example, Latin American women tend to prefer much more buttock volume than European women.

Other aspects assessed are the patient’s weight, the flaccidity of the tissue, and the muscle tone. The quality of the skin will also determine to a great extent the final result.
